MEET THE BOARD 2024-2025
carisa wellenreuther- President
I am thrilled to be serving as President this year. As a high school English teacher for the past 20+ years, I understand the importance of parental involvement, and as the mom of a fourth grader at Tackan, I look forward to working with members of the school community to make this the best year ever for our kids! In the past I have served as class mom, and chaired committees such as the Plant Sale, Reflections and the Ducks game.
corey doherty - 1st Vice President
I am super excited to be 1st vice president. I currently work as a registered nurse on a medical/surgical floor for a Catholic health hospital in the Smithtown district. With that being said, my most important job in the world is being the mother to three very unique, kind, and energetic children- Thomas (4th grade), Flynn (2nd grade), and our baby Grace is going in to preschool. I have been the chairperson of the plant sale since my oldest was in kindergarten. Since then, I have chaired a plethora of other fundraisers and events with my husband Tom over the past five years. I am a dedicated PTA member and I am honored to work with so many amazing people that want the best for our children.
MELANIE RESSA - 2nd Vice President
I am honored to serve as the 2nd Vice President for a second year. I currently have two students at Tackan- Robbie (2nd grade) and Cody (1st grade). I have chaired PARP, Trunk or Treat, Membership, and served as class mom. As a former educator and current learning and development specialist, I know the importance of learning and community for our students. I am excited to continue to make the Tackan community fun and engaging for all.
tom doherty - Treasurer
I’m proud to be elected Treasurer for the Tackan PTA. I am husband of the 1st Vice President, Corey and father to three amazing children- Thomas (4th grade), Flynn (2nd grade), and Grace 3 (coming soon to a school near you). I am part owner of the largest non-emergency medical transportation company (TLC) based in Suffolk County and I’m looking forward to working side by side with the amazing individuals that selflessly serve on this board.
Jackie Sorce - Recording Secretary
My name is Jackie Sorce and I’m honored to be starting my first year as recording secretary for the Tackan PTA! I have three children- Carlie is a sophomore in college, Joseph is going into his senior year at East, and Dominic is going into second grade. After an amazing year chairing multiple committees and helping on on several others, I look forward to another year of more wonderful events for our Tackan students!
dawn gary - Corresponding Secretary
I am happy to serve on the board this year as Corresponding Secretary. This will be my family’s tenth year in the Tackan community. I’ve volunteered on many committees to bring fun programs to all of our students. I have three children- Sydney (9th grade- go East!), Quinley (5th grade) and Ashton (4th grade). Professionally, I’m a Finance Manager with a global aerospace company. I’m also a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout pack treasurer. This is my fourth year on the Tackan PTA board.
brianne walsh- Council delegate
I am so honored to serve as Council Delegate for the Tackan PTA. Being a mom to my son, Dominic (1st grade) is one of my greatest accomplishments in life. I am also a proud board member of the Smithtown SEPTA (Special Education PTA), and have 20+ years of corporate office and customer service experience. During Dominic’s kindergarten year I volunteered for various classroom activities and chaired the 5th grade moving up ceremony. I am looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with our Tackan family.
