The mission of Tackan's PTA is to bring Tackan parents together with the school's teachers and administrators in a collaborative way to help enrich the educational and social experience for all Tackan's students. The overall purpose of the PTA is to help each child in our school reach his or her potential through quality education in a nurturing environment.
The PTA provides a powerful voice for all children in Tackan and connects families with school staff to ensure that the common goals of each are met. We are dedicated to promoting children’s health, well-being, and educational success through strong parent, family, and community involvement.
The activities of the PTA are governed by the Bylaws set in place and approved by the NYS PTA. Click here for a copy of the PTA's approved Bylaws.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the PTA really do?
The PTA works closely with Mr. Furey, the administrative and education personnel and the school board to ensure that the needs of our students are continually met. Through our fundraisers we fund most of the age appropriate cultural arts programs brought into Tackan in order to enhance the curriculum and enrich the learning experience of the children. Additionally, the PTA organizes humanitarian community events such as the Food and Toy Drive, educational events such as PARP and other social events such as Family Fun Night and Boys/Girls Night’s Out.
I really don’t want to volunteer for any committees; do I still have to join?
We suggest that all parents join the PTA. While we encourage everyone who wants to be involved to attend our monthly meetings and volunteer in any way they feel comfortable, if you don’t want to that’s perfectly fine. However, if you join, a large portion of your membership dues go directly into the PTA’s treasury, allowing us to fund exciting and enriching programs for our students. In fact, the membership drive is one of our larger fundraisers.
How often does the PTA meet?
The PTA meets once a month – typically the second Tuesday of the month. Meetings take place in the evening at 7:30 PM. All meetings are listed on the Smithtown District Calendar and can also be found on the Tackan PTA website.
Do I have to join the PTA every year?
Yes, we would love it if you did. A percentage of your membership dues goes directly into the PTA budget which is then used to fund the cultural arts programs the children enjoy all year long.
Did You Know?
Even if you don't care to attend meetings or participate in committees, it's important that you send in your membership fee. A large portion of your membership fee goes directly into the PTA budget as one of our larger fundraisers.
